Samakti is a blog that also inspires me to highlight and share my Catholic faith. It's deeply rooted in my life and a part of me that without it would be dry as my faith gives me life, nourishment, joy and peace (to name a few).
My faith has grown and become more and more prevalent and important in my life. I can recall drawing closer in my early 20's after a time where I didn't feel as close or compelled in developing my spirituality. Writing is one of the best ways in which I share and express my passions, hobbies as well as my faith which is something I am passionate about and want to continue learning and growing more in it.
Samakti is an Arabic word for the possessive of fish, simply meaning 'my fish'. I find it also relevant and meaningful that fish comes up in the Bible particularly when Jesus' disciples have a difficult time catching fish all night and are tired and weary.
"When it was already light, there stood Jesus on the shore, though the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. Jesus called out, 'Haven't you caught anything, friends?' And when they answered, 'No', he said, 'Throw the net out to starboard and you'll find something.' So they threw the net out and could not haul it in because of the quantity of fish." John 21:4-7 .
This particular Gospel reading portrays the faith of the disciples right after the Resurrection of Jesus and recognizing him. It also entails the renewal of faith, that Jesus will give us something new even if we attempted our human capacities, God's graciousness and generosity spill over, so to say.
Another episode involving fish is when Jesus calls upon his disciples and starting his ministry.
"As he was walking by the Lake of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew; they were making a cast into the lake with their net, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, 'Come after me and I will make you fishers of men.' And at once they left their nets and followed him." Matthew 4: 18-20
This verse portrays conviction, as well as trust. And faith is just that, trust and a deep conviction. The disciples are being led from their former life into something new (once again). A purpose, a plan that he has in store for them.
I want this blog to be where I can develop my faith and spirituality in various ways, through writings on the saints, scripture, experiences, prayer and perhaps more! May the involvement of a 'fish' lead me to Christ and a renewed faith just like the disciples.
This is a wonderful reflection on the name choice for your blog and how important your faith is to you. I love the quotations from the Bible too!
